	Our guards changed yesterday.	Le nostre guardie sono cambiate ieri.
	I think we now have a better set of fellows than those we had.	Penso che ora abbiamo un gruppo migliore di compagni di quelli che avevamo.
	They are more anxious to trade with us.	Sono piu ansiosi di commerciare con noi.
	Greenbacks in great demand; seven Confederate dollars for one of Uncle Sam's.	Greenbacks molto richiesti; sette dollari confederati per uno di zio Sam.

	We are thinking of home and friends.	Stiamo pensando a casa e agli amici.

	I have forgotten to mention before that there are about six hundred prisoners in this room, divided into squads of twenty.	Ho dimenticato di menzionare prima che ci sono circa seicento prigionieri in questa stanza, divisi in squadre di venti.
	One man draws the rations for the twenty and cuts it up.	Un uomo prepara le razioni per i venti e le taglia

	The twenty rations are put out separately on the floor, and one turns his back and the sergeant points to a ration and says, "Who takes this ?" and the man with his back turned to the ration says- "one," "two," "five" or "ten," as the case may be, on up till the twenty are served.	Le venti razioni vengono messe separatamente sul pavimento, e una volta le spalle e il sergente indica una razione e dice "Chi lo prende?" e l'uomo con le spalle rivolte alla razione dice: "uno", "due", "cinque" o "dieci", a seconda del caso, fino a quando i venti sono serviti.
	This is done to prevent the sergeant from showing any favor to any particular one.	Questo viene fatto per impedire al sergente di mostrare alcun favore a uno in particolare.

23d. Rations very small to-day; a mixture of corn meal and flour and only get about four ounces of that, and about three ounces of raw, half rotten bacon for the next twenty-four hours.

	Men are very hungry; many weak and sick with hunger.	Gli uomini hanno molta fame; molto deboli e affamati di fame.

	I hardly think the rebel prisoners in the North are treated like we unfortunate beings.	Non credo che i prigionieri ribelli del Nord siano trattati come noi sfortunati esseri.

	29th. Rations about three-quarters of a pound of bread, no meat, but a bucketful of bean soup for each twenty men, about twenty beans to the bucket — nothing more than warm water.	29. 	Better for us if they would take us out in an open space and place us before a battery of cannon and blew us to pieces, than have us dying this way by inches. 	Ten of our men were taken out to the hospital from here this morning.	Dieci dei nostri uomini sono stati portati in ospedale da qui questa mattina.
	That is the last of them, poor fellows.	Questo e l'ultimo, poveri compagni.
	There were two of my regiment among them.	C'erano due del mio reggimento tra loro.
	We will never see them any more, as they are more dead than alive.	Non li vedremo mai piu, poiche sono piu morti che vivi.

	These are the best rations we have received for over a week.	Queste sono le migliori razioni che abbiamo ricevuto durante la settimana.
	Men are very anxious to be exchanged so that we can get into our lines once more.	Gli uomini sono molto ansiosi di essere scambiati in modo da poter entrare di nuovo nelle nostre linee.
